The Hummingbird Manifesto
A few things we are learning about putting ourselves back on our own list.

We are Hummingbirds.
We know what it’s like to promise ourselves we’ll sit down when we’ve finished everything else.
We also know that everything else is never finished.
There’s always washing in the basket. Another email. Someone who needs something. Something useful we could be doing.
So we’re learning to stop waiting.
We don’t believe joy has to be earned.
We believe twenty minutes spent making something badly is twenty minutes well spent.
Cake doesn’t need an occasion.
Hobbies don’t need to become side hustles.
The good mug can come out on a Tuesday.
We can spend time, attention and money on ourselves without first proving we’ve done enough for everyone else.
We’re not always brilliant at it.
Sometimes the guilt comes along for the Teabreak too.
We do it anyway.
Because putting ourselves on the list doesn’t mean we care about everyone else less.
It means refusing to leave ourselves off it.
We notice small things. We make. We play. We pause. We celebrate tiny joys.
We don’t wait for life to become less busy before we start enjoying it.
We make room for joy in the middle of it.
